The Pregnancy Resource Centers ministry has shifted over the years. Before it was seen as primarily for abortion intervention, we now see the awesome opportunity to develop relationships with the young women who come to our centers.
One of the most exciting developments has been the Earn While You Learn program (EWYL). It allows us to provide for physical needs yet require that our clients "earn" the materials through learning. Because the client meets weekly with the same counselor, a meaningful relationship often develops. It is through these relationships that the gospel of Jesus can be felt, seen and heard.
The EWYL curriculum contains forty-five lessons in nine modules that take a young woman from early pregnancy to three months after the baby is born, with a lesson and a homework assignment for each one-hour session. The lessons cover pregnancy, postpartum care, the developing pre-born, the emotional needs and physical care of a newborn, first aid, foundations of discipline, bonding, abstinence, and much more. Each client receives a personalized lesson plan that maps out each week's lesson.
Here is what some of our clients are saying about the EWYL program:
"We really enjoyed coming to this session. We felt very comfortable and wanted and will pursue continuing to be a part of these sessions. Thank you all so much."
"A month after my second visit to the Center I began taking parenting lessons. I have learned so much information that I didn't know before being a first time mom. Now I am confident, determined, and stronger than before. I know that I can make things happen for me and my child. Care Net gave me hope and I would like to say thank you."
